Job Description: The resource’s function is essential to securing the City of New York’s systems and mission critical services, requiring the ability to build and operate the next generation of platform, frameworks and software services that powers several mission critical applications critical in protecting systems and data from various cyber attacks.

SCOPE OF SERVICES: The Security Sciences division within the NYC Office of Technology and Innovation’s Cyber Command strives to make security data a strategic asset by providing a platform to structure, manage, integrate, control, analyze, and support threat management activities. The Senior Network Architect will assist division leadership in planning and implementing security design, processes and solutions between multiple technical projects; perform cybersecurity risk analyses, incorporate outcomes in its strategic plans and track mitigation actions; review and optimize existing security controls.
TASKS:
● Implement initiatives in the Security Sciences’ strategic plan as they relate to network architecture: create network architecture diagrams, collect communication flow information, and build high- and low-level design documents; ensure the organization complies with cybersecurity best practices, policies and standards; enforce endpoint security standards.
● Instruct and guide teams to craft "secure by default" infrastructure; they may also investigate, build, and recommend innovative technologies or other methods that will improve the security of cloud-based and on-premises environments.
● Perform organization-wide cybersecurity risk analyses and maintain a register of identified risks; develop, socialize and secure approval for cybersecurity strategic plans that address generic and cyber-specific risks to the organization, and track risk mitigations progress; analyze vulnerabilities and work with IT and Systems teams to ensure timely remediation and validation.
● Review and optimize existing controls, translate compliance requirements into specific security controls, and create metrics to measure controls efficacy.
● Monitor and respond to alerts, and work with partners to develop and maintain incident response plans; perform threat simulations to detect possible risks and provide security recommendations on topics like microservices design and/or application development.
● Interface with vendor support teams to identify solutions to complex network problems, and drive issues to resolution.
MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

● Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent work experience
● Minimum of 12 years of experience in information security
● Minimum of 8 years in IT infrastructure management, application architecture, risk management, data architecture, middleware technology, and IT operations and project management
● Minimum of 8 years of experience with networking, load-balancing, DNS, TLS/SSL digital certificates, SAML, Kerberos,
● Minimum of 4 years of experience working in cloud environment (Azure, AWS, GCP)
DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
● Experience in implementing and operating Network Security Telemetry Collection Systems
● Experience in implementing and operating Data Loss Prevention Systems
● Experience of information security principles and practices, especially the implementation of practical technical controls to support organization policy
● Strong understanding of networking protocols, firewalls, and cybersecurity protection concepts, including software development lifecycle
● Strong understanding of cloud-based services such as O365, AzureAD, IAM
● Strong understanding of CIS controls
● Experience with Splunk, Humio or similar SIEM/log aggregation systems
